Zerf Productions: Kilimanjaro 20/20 HIV/AIDS

Africa in Peril Project

The HIV/AIDS pandemic has been devastating for the developing world, but the scale of its multiple impacts is seriously jeopardizing the survival of populations living in sub-Saharan Africa. While with the wide usage of antiretroviral drugs the face of the epidemic has drastically changed in the western world, the situation is largely becoming chaotic in several African countries where access to antiretrovirals is very poor as necessary resource mobilization in rich countries is negligible.

Over the past few years, Zerf-productions, a Montreal-based grass-roots non-governmental organization, has been responding to several needs of the community in the fight against poverty and HIV/AIDS here in Canada and in Africa. Zerf, in collaboration with Health Partners International, delivers medications, clothing, and other goods directly to those in need.

Zerf intends to increase its humanitarian efforts for the next five years by working in close partnership with community-based organizations in African countries that are highly affected by HIV/AIDS: the Congo, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Kenya.

Project Initiatives

Zerf's intervention plans will cover several assistance programs regrouped in different complementary activities.

Health care assistance	Identifying a small group of people living with HIV who will be targeted and helped Providing antiretroviral drugs to medical doctors Providing medications corresponding to the local needs of hospitals and clinics Supplying hospital beds and other medical equipment
Educational, training, and cultural activities	Supplying books and other training materials Supplying computers and printers Holding cultural activities Organizing training seminars for health professionals, social workers, and HIV patients
Nutrition, clothing, and health promotion	Delivering non-perishable foods Delivering clothes Organizing AIDS prevention campaigns Constructing hospices for dying HIV/AIDS patients who have no support
